Social Support's Role Reviewed in Combating Violence

The Federal Social Support Department of the UAE Ministry of Interior played a prominent role in the second edition of the global conference, Empowering the Community to Reject Violence and Confront Extremism Leading to Terrorism, held in Abu Dhabi. Organized by the Wajib Volunteer Association in collaboration with the United Nations, the event featured significant international, security, and community participation.

During a panel discussion, Colonel Dr. Ahmed Subaian Al Tenaiji, Director of the Federal Social Support Department, presented a research paper titled A Sustainable Approach to Promoting Peace and Combating Domestic and Social Violence. He highlighted the unique Emirati model, established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which integrates global humanitarian values such as cultural diversity, moral solidarity, tolerance, and coexistence.

Colonel Dr. Al Tenaiji also reviewed the UAE’s robust legal framework supporting peaceful coexistence, including the Anti-Discrimination and Hatred Law and the Cybercrime Law. He emphasized the Ministry of Interior’s initiatives to enhance family bonds and quality of life, reflecting the nation’s commitment to fostering tolerance and harmony.

The research further detailed the pivotal role of the Federal Social Support Department in addressing violence, particularly domestic violence. Acting as a bridge between society and the Ministry of Interior, the department focuses on promoting tolerance, mutual respect, and awareness to prevent violence. Its efforts extend to offering family, social, and psychological counseling, resolving family disputes, and tackling societal challenges.

Additionally, the department contributes through educational programs, community activities, and psychological support, actively engaging in community councils to enhance social cohesion and create a safer, more prosperous society.
