MOI hosts meetings of Executive Council and General Assembly of ICDO 

The Ministry of Interior MOI hosted the 55th session of the Executive Council and the 25th session of the General Assembly of the International Civil Defense Organization, in the capital, Abu Dhabi .The opening Ceremony was attended by Gen. Dr. Jassim Mohamed Al Marzooqi, Commander-in-Chief of Civil Defense at the Ministry of Interior and other senior Local and universal officers.

The opening ceremony of the first meeting, which was devoted to the Executive Council, was attended by also by HE Mrs. Mariato Yap, Secretary-General of the International Civil Defense Organization, as well as representatives of ICDO’s member states.

Maj. Gen. Dr. Jassim Al Marzooqi opened the speech by conveying the greetings of HH Lt.-Gen. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and his wishes for a successful meeting.

Al Marzooqi stressed the Ministry's keenness under the wise leadership's vision to support and bolster international work and coordination. He added that the Ministry takes interest in hosting such constructive meetings and implementing high-level joint projects in all fields, especially in areas of protection, safety and community prevention.

He also said that the International Organization for Civil Protection and Civil Defense accomplishments during the past ninety-one years, in coordination with the concerned authorities in the Member States, is an example to follow at all levels thanks to proper planning, strong will and modernity to upgrade the state's institutions and its diversified economy and keep pace with advanced development in various fields.

He further added that the process of creating a safe future requires a high level of coordination among all countries, as the civil protection and civil defense agencies have played an effective role through their preventive services.

Al Marzooqi also pointed out that our future vision stems from understanding and recognizing the needs and necessities of our society. Therefore, we are keen to maintain and strengthen relations between the competent authorities in all security and administrative agencies to form a comprehensive security system capable of facing the challenges that our contemporary world is witnessing in light of the successive scientific changes and developments. We aim to open up the horizons of cooperation with partners in a way that benefits our countries so that we reach the highest levels of security and safety and save lives and property.

The meeting discussed ways to step up international work in the fields of safety, prevention and civil protection through the exchange of best practices and experiences among countries of the world. Participants reviewed the organization’s administrative and financial reports, the organization’s most important projects and initiatives, its ongoing work across the world and contributions to civil defense and prevention, and recommendations issued by specialized committees such as the Committee of Training and issues raised by the Secretariat and members.

The following day the statute of the international system in the Assembly and preparations for the World Civil Defense Day 2024 were reviewed, as well as the implementation of the recommendations and decisions of the 54th session.  The internal regulations were also approved, and a video was broadcast highlighting the efforts of the organization.

Delegations participating in the day also visited a number of tourist places and areas Abu Dhabi, including the Louvre Museum and Umm Al Emarat Park.

On the third day, the 25th meeting of the General Assembly was held, and reports of the technical committees and the agenda were discussed. The chairman and members of the Executive Council were elected for the new session. The new observer and newly admitted countries were reviewed, and a report was presented on the organization's activities and projects since the 24th session, as well as the programs of activities for the coming years, along with a report on the contributions of member states.
