Environment protection is everyone's responsibility.. MOI marks World Environment Day

Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, attended a virtual event organized by the General Department of Strategy and Performance Development, represented by the Department of Quality. The event was held to observe World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5th, under the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution." The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment collaborated with the Ministry of Interior for this occasion.

In his opening speech, Major General Al Khaili emphasized the UAE's commitment to the environment and its recognition of the significance of this vital aspect. He highlighted that environmental preservation is a priority on the national agenda and an integral part of the country's strategy to fulfill its responsibility towards future generations. Furthermore, he mentioned that the Ministry of Interior, under the guidance of Lieutenant General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, actively promotes sustainable practices and addresses the directives of the country's leadership regarding environmental sustainability and climate change. He also mentioned that the UAE is preparing to host the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

Major General Al Khaili emphasized that the ministry, together with its specialized teams, is dedicated to fostering an environmental consciousness among the population. They are developing safety protocols for plastic waste management, including recycling methods, and encouraging individuals to incorporate sustainable practices into their daily lives for a greener future.

In her speech, Eng. Kawthar Al Shamsi from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment discussed the fundamental aspects of sustainable development and its objectives. She highlighted the country's focus on "sustainability" in 2023, coinciding with its hosting of COP28, the largest international climate event.

Eng. Al Shamsi also addressed this year's World Environment Day theme, which centers around plastics and the environmental challenges posed by their excessive consumption. She stressed the importance of finding alternative solutions to reduce pollution and hazardous emissions that harm the environment and living organisms.

During her address, Eng. Al Shamsi highlighted the nation's efforts and strategic plans to protect and preserve the environment. These initiatives promote, cooperate, and work hard, aligning with the national collaboration agenda and fostering local and international environmental participation. The country actively organizes conferences and meetings to discuss environmental challenges and develop solutions, aiming for a sustainable future and a better life for future generations.
