The Ministry of Interior organizes a virtual community policing workshop on youth and children’s engagement and safety

The Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with the Safe Communities Forum, the Portuguese National Guard, the Singapore University of Social Sciences, and the Belgian Police, organized a virtual community policing workshop on youth and children’s engagement and safety.

The workshop addressed the tasks, role and methods of community policing to protect vulnerable groups of society and build safer communities, touching on the participation of youth and children in society and in cyberspace and methods of protecting them, and focusing on addressing the weaknesses of this age group, which ranges between (16) and (24) years. In the face of violence and abuse online, given that they represent approximately 42% of the world’s population who are under the age of 24, there is a need to address the challenges facing children and youth, especially with regard to online safety and mechanisms for interacting with law enforcement agencies. .

The workshop also addressed innovative solutions from the perspective of community policing, with the aim of ensuring the development of youth skills. The workshop also reviewed case studies and best practices applied in this field. Then, an open discussion took place on the topics raised, and suggestions and ideas that enriched the workshop dialogue were discussed.


The workshop was attended by Lieutenant Colonel Dana Humaid Al Marzouqi, Director General of the International Affairs Office at the Ministry of Interior, Professor Rizwana Begum Abdul Rahim, Head of the Public Safety and Security Program at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, and Major Ricardo Guimar es da Silva, Head of the Crime Prevention and Community Policing Department of the Guard. Portuguese National, Superintendent Tim De Vos, Deputy Chief of Police, District of Schouten, Belgian Local Police, Superintendent Kim Caticor, Chief of Provincial Police, Belgian Local Police, Detlev Schr der, former Director of the CEPOL Foundation, and Professor Stan Gilmore, FRSA Foundation. , Professor of Practice and International Consultant in Community Safety, Risk Data and Prevention.
