Gearing up for winter: Specialized Training for Mountain Rescue Operations
The Civil Defense Academy of the Ministry of Interior recently conducted an intensive training course on "Search and Rescue Operations in Mountainous Areas." This specialized program took place from October 21 to 25 at the Adventure Park in Fujairah, involving 24 Civil Defense personnel. This initiative aligns with the General Command of Civil Defense's strategy to enhance the skills and capabilities of its members, enabling them to effectively address the unique challenges posed by mountainous terrain and to ensure safety and protection for all, especially in challenging geographical and climatic conditions.
The training is particularly timely as winter approaches, a season marked by an increase in outdoor sports and tourism, especially for hiking enthusiasts in elevated areas.
The program consisted of both theoretical and practical components, focusing on the specific conditions of the region's mountainous areas. Participants explored the primary challenges faced during search and rescue missions and learned how to respond swiftly and effectively to various emergency reports.
A key feature of the training was a "real simulation system," where participants engaged in realistic search and rescue missions, employing advanced response techniques, first aid, and evacuation strategies. They practiced crucial skills, including ascent and descent techniques, as well as the safe transfer of injured individuals. The training also covered the effective distribution of equipment and selecting appropriate anchor points in high-altitude scenarios.
The General Command of Civil Defense is committed to offering these training courses annually, continually striving to enhance performance in the civil defense sector. This focus on training and the ongoing development of personnel is vital for safeguarding lives, property, and national interests.
