Joint Training Course on “Procedures for Identifying, Interviewing, and Referring Victims of Human Trafficking at Border Crossings” Wraps Up

The Ministry of Interior, through its Human Rights Department – Anti-Human Trafficking Committee, in joint coordination with the Sharjah Police Academy and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has concluded a specialized training course titled Procedures for Identifying, Interviewing, and Referring Victims of Human Trafficking at Border Crossings. Hosted at the Sharjah Police Academy over the period from May 14–15, the course formed part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to fulfilling regional and international obligations in the fight against human trafficking, while reinforcing mechanisms for the protection of victims. It further sought to step up coordination and cooperation at the international, regional, and national levels, with particular emphasis on building the operational capacity of personnel deployed at border crossings.
The training program was designed to enhance the skills and readiness of border officers in the detection, interviewing, and protection of individuals subjected to human trafficking.
The course was formally inaugurated by His Excellency Colonel Mohammed Khalifa Al Hamoudi, Chairman of the Anti-Human Trafficking Committee at the Ministry of Interior. Also in attendance were His Excellency Colonel Dr. Basem Al Naqbi, Head of the Education and Postgraduate Studies Department at the Sharjah Academy for Police Sciences, and Dr. Muhannad Al Duwaikat, a regional expert at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the GCC. A number of specialized personnel, nominated from various Ministry departments and local police HQs, also took part in the course.
This initiative falls within the scope of the Ministry’s strategic partnership with the UNODC, particularly in the domain of advancing and institutionalizing human resource capabilities. It also aligns with the implementation of the National Action Plan of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.
