I2LEC Holds Virtual Training on Addressing Environmental Crimes
The Steering Committee of the International Initiative of Law Enforcement for Climate (I2LEC) organized a virtual training session on tackling environmental crimes, in collaboration with the EnviCrime Academy and the Spanish Civil Guard. The event brought together over 500 participants from law enforcement agencies across Africa, Latin America, and Asia, alongside experts from Europol, the European Union Forum of Judges for the Environment, and specialists from the United Nations.
The training was conducted in two phases. The first phase, held from September 9-12, focused on foundational knowledge, aiming to equip law enforcement officers with the essential skills required to address and combat environmental crimes. This phase provided a comprehensive overview of environmental crimes, along with the tools and methods necessary for conducting effective police investigations.
Key topics included the basics of environmental protection, the primary characteristics of environmental crimes, and investigative tools for law enforcement agencies. The second phase, scheduled for September 23-26, offers advanced training tailored to experienced law enforcement professionals. This segment covers legal frameworks, environmental forensics, advanced investigative techniques, inter-agency cooperation, ethical practices, and an in-depth examination of complex environmental crimes.
