Represented by the Safe Communities Forum, MOI Takes Part in the World Rehabilitation Conference (2024)

The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Safe Communities Forum, participated in the World Rehabilitation Conference (2024), held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center. Organized by the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, the conference aimed to address global challenges faced by people of determination, focusing on equality and the removal of barriers hindering their integration into the labor market.

The Ministry's involvement was highlighted in a discussion session led by Lieutenant Sultan Al Dahbashi, Director of the Permanent Alliances Development Branch in the Office of International Affairs. He presented a research paper centered on the concept and core principles of community policing. He emphasized that community policing is a collaborative model where the police and the community work hand-in-hand to promote security and safety.

Al Dahbashi explained that the approach hinges on the belief that the community is a crucial partner in ensuring public safety, and fostering stronger relationships between law enforcement officers and citizens leads to more effective outcomes. In his paper, Lieutenant Al Dahbashi reviewed global success stories in community policing, especially those supporting people of determination. He highlighted Dubai Police's initiatives for individuals with autism, which include specialized programs to enhance their interactions with law enforcement. He also detailed the efforts of Portugal’s National Guard, which partnered with civil society organizations to create police programs aimed at increasing the sense of security for people of determination. Additionally, he explored the Australian police's initiatives, which involve awareness campaigns and a dedicated police unit utilizing advanced technologies to improve communication with people of determination.

Lastly, he showcased the work of law enforcement agencies in Northern Ireland, which have focused on inclusivity by training officers and implementing supportive policies to create a safer environment for people of determination.
