MOI Highlights Role of Sports in Drug Prevention at Second UAE Community Sports Forum
The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Federal Anti-Narcotics General Directorate, took part in the second UAE Community Sports Forum under the theme "Sports in the Year of Community." Organized by the UAE Sports for All Federation in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, the forum was hosted at the Ministry of Sports headquarters in Dubai.
Bringing together a wide range of experts, decision-makers, and community sports specialists, the forum explored the latest research and innovations in the field. It was structured around two main themes: The first spotlighted successful community sports models across the Gulf region, highlighting their impact on public health and the collaborative role of both public and private sectors in advancing community wellness through sports. The second theme examined pioneering Arab initiatives in community sports, focusing on their social and economic contributions and strategies for regional cooperation and development.
During the Ministry of Interior’s dedicated dialogue session, Ms. Lamia Al Zaabi, Head of the Drug Prevention Section at the Federal Anti-Narcotics General Directorate, shared insights into the Ministry’s strategic use of sports as a core element in drug prevention. She emphasized that the Ministry’s approach goes beyond traditional awareness campaigns, integrating sports into comprehensive preventive programs that promote physical health, educational engagement, and strong family values.
A key initiative presented was the "Siraj" National Drug Prevention Program – Sports as a Preventive Tool, which promotes a healthy body, happiness, family cohesion, and positive peer influence. The Ministry also showcased its "Sports Summer" initiative, designed for the children of Ministry personnel, offering training in martial arts such as jujitsu and mixed martial arts (MMA).
Additionally, the Ministry outlined its broader efforts, including partnerships with educational institutions, awareness programs in schools, and the incorporation of sports into rehabilitation programs for individuals recovering from addiction. The session concluded with an overview of the Ministry’s training programs aimed at developing the athletic potential of police and security personnel, encouraging participation in local and international competitions, and positioning them as role models for the nation’s youth.
The forum runs through April 17 and features an accompanying exhibition with pavilions from leading government entities committed to promoting community sports. The Ministry of Interior’s pavilion highlights its holistic approach to encouraging sports as a sustainable lifestyle and a powerful tool for positive behavioral change.
