I2LEC Launches Expanded Virtual Training to Strengthen Law Enforcement Against Environmental Crimes

Initiative of Law Enforcement for Climate (I2LEC), has unveiled an expanded virtual training program for 2025, aimed at equipping law enforcement personnel with advanced tools to combat environmental crimes and mitigate their impact on climate change. Scheduled for September and October, the program brings together global expertise to foster stronger enforcement capabilities and international collaboration.
Led by specialists from law enforcement agencies, universities, and international organizations across four continents, the training will be delivered in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic. It targets law enforcement professionals and is organized into three comprehensive modules covering global trends, investigative techniques, international agreements, and legal frameworks.

The first two-day session focused on wildlife and biodiversity crimes, highlighting strategies to combat illegal wildlife trade and safeguard endangered species. The second session examined hazardous materials and toxins, while the final session in October will address waste management and pollution control.

During the inaugural session, participants including experts from Europol and other environmental crime specialists shared insights on best practices for ecosystem protection and reinforced understanding of international legislation and agreements. The interactive platform allowed participants to exchange experiences, enhancing their ability to respond effectively to environmental crimes.

This training series, part of the broader I2LEC initiative, aims to raise awareness, build capacity, and strengthen global law enforcement efforts in environmental protection. By enhancing knowledge and skills in addressing climate-related crimes, the program contributes to the international mission of conserving biodiversity, protecting wildlife, and promoting sustainable environment conservation.
