Federal Traffic Council Discusses Determination of Legal Responsibility in Pedestrian Accidents

The Federal Traffic Council at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) discussed the issue of determining the legal responsibility in accidentals where pedestrians who cross streets from undesignated areas are hit by vehicles. The Council recommended communicating with the Federal Attorney General to establish a joint committed from the police and the public prosecution to develop and standardize procedures at the traffic and patrols departments’ level, and to determine the legal responsibility in order to protect both drivers and pedestrians in hit accidents.

The discussions took place during the 10th meeting of the Federal Traffic Council held recently and chaired by Major General Eng. Mohammad Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Director General of Operation Affairs at Dubai Police, and Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council at the Traffic Department’s headquarters in Dubai.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Deputy Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council; members of the Federal Traffic Council at the Ministry of Interior; Heads of Traffic and Patrol Departments in the UAE; in addition to representatives of relevant Government Departments and bodies in the fields of traffic and roads attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed recommendations of the 8th meeting of the Federal Traffic Council’s regarding vehicles’ modification and modification permits. The meeting recommended contacting the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology to add a note in the modification permits stating that this permit doesn’t constitute an approval of the modification unless approved by the licensing authority.

The meeting tackled merging drivers’ profiles between the Federal Traffic and Licensing System and the Traffic System in Dubai. Furthermore, the Council recommended standardizing the procedures and systems related to drivers and vehicles’ registration; besides instructing the E-services and communication departments at the Ministry to link the traffic file number to the EID number.

Major General Eng. Mohammad Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Director General of Operation Affairs at Dubai Police, and Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council commended the Ajman Police General Headquarters’ Traffic Services and Licensing Center for ranking among the top five at the UAE level. Major General Al Zafeen stressed that this ranking is a direct result of the joint efforts and the teamwork spirit of all the staff who contributed their time and effort to play their part, wishing them every success in their efforts.

Major General Al Zafeen expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all the staff at the center for their efforts, devotion and commitment that lead them to this ranking. He also urged them to continue the march of giving and excellence in the security field in Ajman Police to score honorable results that promotes the reputation of the United Arab Emirates Police.
