The Award background: 
According to the Ministerial resolution No (167) of 2010, H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, has launched the fourth edition of the Minister of Interior Award for Scientific Research, in order to encourage the employees to adopt scientific research and its methodologies as one of the main important tool, to understand and solve problems in an innovative ways, as well as foreseeing the future in terms of predicting the risks and potential criminal phenomena, which will enable the development of strategies and plans addressing these phenomenon.
Accordingly and to achieve the desired goals; the fourth edition of the Award comes in a modern style that includes six areas of research, specialized in police and security work, along with some specific research problems and challenges of the Ministry of Interior, in order to achieve the maximum benefit from the researches and its recommendations for the development of work mechanism and services.


Award Objectives:

1.Encouraging the employees of the Ministry of Interior to adopt scientific research, considering it as the basic tool for work development and the main gateway to entrenching the culture of innovation at the Ministry.
2.Sharpening intellectual and creative talents as well as encouraging the spirit of competition between the employees at the Ministry of Interior.
3.Publishing the studies and researches, in order to apply and adopt its results and recommendations, along with contributing to the development of human sciences and enriching the police library with researches and studies that serve police work.
4.Discovering the scientific and academic talents of the employees at the Ministry of Interior to invest their energies in the development of police work.
5.Directing the studies towards solving current problems and challenges, along with serving the community and national needs for security and safety.



Award fields:

1- Drug crimes and the way to address them and fight them, or raise the awareness of the 
society about its dangers, or rehabilitation of addicts.
2 - Looking at the future of the crime (or a specific type) and scenarios dealing with it.
3 - Reduce the phenomenon of using phones while driving or raising awareness in an 
innovative way.
4 - Use one of the types of artificial intelligence in one of the police operations.
5 - Reduce traffic accidents due to fog.





Conditions of Participation/ registration 
Participants must be employees of police and security forces in the UAE, and retirees may also participate.
Participants should be UAE citizens, non-citizens may participate in a joint research with a UAE citizen.
A joint research team should not be more than two candidates.
The participant has the right to submit a maximum of two papers, one of which is an individual and the other a bilateral one.
The Objective of the research shall fall under the proposed six areas/ fields mentioned above.
The research should meet the terms and condition of a proper scientific research, that includes useful ideas which addresses problems and security issues, which will contribute to the development of concepts that serves police work.
The research should not have participated previously in a competition, or won an award, or its author did not receive an educational degree whereby.
The research should be submitted on time, and the research should be presented in Arabic, unless the nature of the topic requires otherwise.
The candidate should not be a member of the board, or evaluating committee, or even one of the administrational team of the award.



Evaluation criteria of the research:


1- Scientific Value of the research

Aspects of rating
The importance of the research subject and its scientific value.
The relevance of the research to the police work (the strategy, objectives and the main operations of the ministry of interior).
The clarity of the research query and its relation to the scientific and applied reality.
The value of the new knowledge added to the human knowledge.

2- Novelty and authenticity:

Aspects of rating
The novelty in selecting scientific ideas
The novelty in choosing the topic of research or identifying the problem or the followed methodology.
The novelty in giving realistic local examples that serves the research.
The novelty in presenting convenient solutions that suits the surrounding environment (innovation).

3- Theoretical framework for research:

Aspects of rating
Benefiting from previous related studies, discuss it and use it properly.
The appropriateness of the selected topics and adequacy to cover the dimensions of research and its variables.
The clarity and authenticity in terms of the concepts of the research.
The objectivity in terms of relying on the evidence and non-aligned to personal or emotional views.

4- Writing style, chosen language and presentation:

Aspects of rating
The reliance on critical writing, not only depending on descriptive and narrative methods.
The ability to observe and compare accurately and objectively
The authenticity of the used language linguistically, grammatically, clarity and simplicity.
The suitability of research coordination, in terms of presentation and logical order of the research chapters.

5- Research Methodology:

Aspects of rating
The coherent of research in terms of methodology whether its (qualitative or quantitative) and the used methods (interviews/questionnaire).
The suitability of the chosen methodology in answering the research questions and achieving its goals.
The quality in applying the research methodology (clarity of research hypothesis and the quality of the study).
The proper determination of the scope and field of the research (the dimensions of the study environment).

6- Scientific credibility and authentication:

Aspects of rating
Neutrality in terms of non-misrepresentation of information or infringing on the rights of others.
Integrity of scientific authentication in terms of accuracy in pointing out all the used references.
The novelty, adequacy, diversity of the used sources, and its relevance to the topic of the research.
The credibility in using resources and using them efficiently and not relying on quotations.

7- Data Analysis and drawing out results and recommendations:

Aspects of rating
Authenticity of the approach that has been followed in the data analysis (quantitative/qualitative), discussing and interpreting it accurately.
Clarity of the results and its relevance to the research topic and linking it to research recommendations.
The importance of the recommendation and the suggested solutions and its relevance to the nature of subject and research problem.
The realism of the suggested solutions and its applicability in the Ministry of Interior (innovation).

8- Ways of referencing the research:

Despite the multiplicity of styles and ways that researchers can use in referencing their research, publishing in books and scientific magazines require the researchers to follow a particular method of referencing. Participating at the Ministry of Interior Award for scientific research must follow one of the following methods to authenticate the references and resources:
1- MLA (Modern Language Association method): it depends on mentioning the author’s last name and the page number when writing.
2- APA (American Psychological Association method): it depends on writing the last name of the author and the year of publication.
3- Chicago Manual method: it depends on using the margins at the bottom of the pages and numbering them sequentially so that all the details of the reference appear.

9- The research technical specification
1. The research should not be less than 6000 words and not more than 20,000 words without references, ranging from 25 pages to page 50.
2. The research must be free of spelling, grammatical and linguistic errors.
3. The images attached in the research must be clear and accurate.
4. The research should be in the classical Arabic language, taking into account the use of the simplified method.
5. A single page should be allocated to the executive summary of the research at the beginning, showing the objectives and methodology and the main findings and recommendations.
6. Please consider the following in the research presentation and format:
Font Type ( Arial or Times New Roman ).
The font size of the content (14), the font size of the headings (16), and the font size of the notes and references (12).
The distance between lines and spacing is 1.5 .
The tables and shapes should be described and given an address above and a serial number.
Notes should be placed at the bottom of the page.
All pages should be numbered.
The research should be divided into chapters and sections according to the nature of the research.

Stages of participating 
Registration from April 16 to April 30 /2018: when all applications are received (attached research summary + personal photo).
Responding to applicants from May 01 to May 10 /2018: when all applicants are informed whether the application is accepted or rejected with the reason of rejections.
Research writing from May 13 to Nov 29 /2018: when applicants commence their research paper.
Research submission from Nov 18 to Nov 29 /2018.
The date of :
(Research evaluation - Face to face interview - Awarding Ceremony)

The Award 

One research paper (winner) will be selected from each category.
The 6 winners from the 6 categories will receive a certificate of appreciation, a medal of scientific research and a total of 50,000 Dirhams, in addition to the printing and publication of the winning researchers.

Honoring the best sector (sector) Participation in the award:
The sector will be chosen based on the participation rate: number of participants in the prize / total number of each sector.
The sector will be handed a symbolic shield bearing the logo of the award by the Minister of Interior at the ceremony.

Honoring the owners of multiple participations:
Participants who participated in four sessions of the award will be honored, and the sessions are not required to be consecutive.

Honoring two categories below:
Participants who submitted the best research from Youth Category.
Participants who submitted the best research from Determined Category.
