Introduction

The Ministry of Interior is dedicated to ensuring that all members of society — including People of Determination and senior citizens — can access its digital services with ease and autonomy. This commitment is in line with the National Digital Accessibility Policy, approved by the Cabinet, and reflects the UAE Digital Government’s goal of creating an inclusive digital society where no one is left behind.

 

Objectives of the Digital Accessibility Policy

Through the implementation of the National Digital Accessibility Policy, the Ministry of Interior aims to:
1. Comply with relevant national laws, policies, and regulations concerning digital accessibility in the United Arab Emirates.
2. Ensure equality and non-discrimination in access to digital services.
3. Empower People of Determination and senior citizens to fully benefit from government services.
4. Raise awareness of accessibility concepts among service developers and employees.
5. Improve the digital user experience for all segments of society in line with best international standards.

 


Adopted Accessibility Standards

The Ministry of Interior's platforms have been designed in accordance with the UAE Design System and in compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA standards to ensure an easy user experience for all user categories.

 

Ongoing Efforts in Digital Accessibility

We are committed to maintaining digital accessibility as part of our ongoing efforts. Our initiatives include regularly testing and updating our websites and smart apps to enhance usability for all users. Accessibility audits and user feedback help identify and address any issues that may arise, ensuring a seamless experience for everyone.

 

Measures Taken to Ensure Accessibility

1. Collaborating with an external provider specialized in digital accessibility tools.
2. Conducting regular testing of the website and application using technical evaluation tools.
3. Involving representatives from People of Determination in user experience testing.
4. Providing online instructional training materials to explain how to use assistive tools.

To ensure an inclusive and user-friendly experience for all visitors, the Ministry of Interior’s service channels offer a wide range of features available across our digital platforms, including:
Compliance with Global Standards: Public service websites comply with AA1 level standards.
Text-to-Speech Feature: Allows users to listen to the content displayed on the screen.
Text to Sign Language Translation Feature: Provides sign language translation for key content to support users with hearing disabilities.
Guidance Videos Feature: Offers instructional videos for using digital services and platforms.
Digital Gateways Navigation Feature: Facilitates access to information and services as needed, categorizing electronic content on digital gateways and their Features based on specific topics and user interests.
Text Size and Screen Clarity Adjustment Feature: Enables users to increase text size to a suitable reading size and includes a screen magnification feature.
Keyboard Shortcuts Feature: Simplifies navigation through keyboard shortcuts.
Keyboard Navigation: Allows users to browse the entire website using keyboard shortcuts.
Tab Key Navigation Feature: Use the Tab key to navigate between links.
Image Descriptions Feature: This feature enables screen reader software to read and describe content, assisting users with visual impairments in understanding images on the gateway.
Text Color Feature: The gateway includes a panel to change text colors to enhance readability, avoiding reliance on color alone to distinguish between text and links.
Browser Compatibility Feature: Optimizes our websites to work efficiently across all major browsers and devices.
File Formatting Feature: Websites are independently designed with their tools and layout to make content easily readable by users and any document readers.
Notifications and Messages Feature: Uses clear and simple language to make all messages and alerts more understandable for people of determination during interactions.
