MOI and Ministry of Climate Change Step Up Collaboration on Environmental Protection, Wildlife Conservation, and Public Awareness
The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment held a virtual coordination meeting to step up collaboration in combating environmental crimes and protecting endangered species from illegal trade and harmful practices. The meeting was part of the UAE’s broader national efforts to preserve natural resources, safeguard biodiversity, and raise public awareness of environmental violations and their impact.
HE Marwan Abdullah Al Zaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Regions Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, underscored the importance of educating the public on proper procedures for owning, caring for, and breeding animals. He emphasized that adhering to national laws is vital to upholding the UAE’s global reputation and honoring its international environmental commitments.
Brigadier General Hamad Rashid Al Zaabi, Director of the Federal Investigation Department at the Ministry of Interior, highlighted the need for strict compliance with environmental laws to prevent offenses and ensure accountability. Laila Al Khanbashi, Director of the Environmental Police Branch at the Ministry of Interior, stressed the role of community awareness in promoting responsible behavior toward animal welfare and environmental protection, noting the legal penalties for violations.
The meeting also discussed plans to launch a joint national awareness campaign with the Security Media Department at the Ministry of Interior and the Government Communication Department at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. The campaign will focus on educating the public about the dangers of environmental crimes and illegal wildlife trade while reinforcing respect for national and international wildlife protection laws.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both ministries reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation through joint initiatives in education, outreach, and information sharing, supporting the UAE’s vision of a safe and sustainable environment in line with the National Strategy for Sustainable Development and UAE Vision 2031.
