Secure Communities Forum holds "Electronic Games: Challenges and Opportunities" symposium with Singapore University
The Secure Communities Forum, in collaboration with Singapore University of Social Sciences, the United Nations Office on Counter-Terrorism, and the Singapore Sports and Gaming Association, orchestrated a symposium titled Electronic Games: Challenges and Opportunities (Pixels and Possibilities).
The event drew active participation from members of the Expert Preparation Program of the Ministry of the Interior and electronic game enthusiasts. Engaging a diverse audience, the symposium welcomed attendees from local institutions and the private sector.
The symposium was opened by HE Professor Mohamed Faisal, Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development of Singapore. In his speech, he artfully delved into both the challenges and opportunities within the electronic gaming sphere, highlighting strategies to enhance online protection and security. The symposium unfolded over a comprehensive day of immersive workshops and dynamic discussions, where Major Hamad Al Hammadi, the regional police attach for Asia and the Pacific in Singapore, thoughtfully reviewed guiding principles crafted by a consortium of experts and academics.
These principles are intricately charted a roadmap, delineating the roles of various stakeholders in the relentless battle against online extremism and hate speech. Various crucial topics emerged during the symposium, with a paramount focus on the moral implications for electronic game users and vulnerable societal segments.
Participants unequivocally underscored the imperative need to empower women within the electronic gaming sphere to counter all forms of intimidation and psychological pressures, and simultaneously, to foster education and awareness in order to defuse attempts at extremism and trolling.
Launched in 2020 and staunchly supported by the Ministry of Interior, the Secure Communities Forum stands as an inclusive initiative. Its mission is clear: to unite all segments of society in addressing and confronting global threats, thus ensuring the safety of communities worldwide.
