MOI Organizes a high level Panel on the Role of Law Enforcement in Combating Environmental Crimes at IUCN World Conservation Congress
The Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the International Affairs Office and as part of the International Initiative of Law Enforcement for Climate (I2LEC), organized a high-level panel discussion titled The Role of Law Enforcement Agencies in Combating Environmental Crimes" The session was held on the sidelines of IUCN World Conservation Congress hosted by the United Arab Emirates and organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
The panel featured distinguished international experts and officials, including Lieutenant Colonel Dana Hamid Al Marzouqi, Director General of the International Affairs Office at the Ministry of Interior; S bastien Notchiez from the French Gendarmerie; Guilhem Souli from ESRI; Aymeric Salamon from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC); and Commissioner Renato Masten from the Brazilian Federal Police.
Discussions highlighted the importance of enhancing international cooperation among law enforcement agencies to combat transnational environmental crimes, as well as the role of modern technologies in supporting efforts to protect the environment and preserve biodiversity. Participants also shared best global practices in addressing environmental challenges.
In her remarks, Lt. Col. Al Marzouqi emphasized the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to supporting international initiatives aimed at addressing environmental challenges and promoting collective action to build a more effective global system for protecting the planet. She noted that the I2LEC initiative serves as a platform to strengthen knowledge exchange and operational cooperation among law enforcement agencies worldwide.
Other speakers shared their national experiences in tackling environmental crimes and implementing relevant legislation. They underscored the need for a unified international approach to address crimes that threaten global environmental security, as well as the importance of developing partnerships and adopting advanced technologies to enhance law enforcement capabilities in protecting the environment and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources.
