MOI Hosts International Workshop on Women, Peace, and Security
The international workshop on women, peace, and security, organized by the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the International Police Peacekeeping Support Program of the US Government, began today in Abu Dhabi. Hosted by the Ministry of Interior of the UAE, the event convenes global participants to explore the critical role of women in peace and security.
In her opening address, Lt. Colonel Dana Humaid Al Marzouqi, Director General of the International Affairs Office at the Ministry of Interior, extended a warm welcome to the attendees. She emphasized the UAE’s steadfast commitment to advancing the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda and supporting the initiatives of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women since its inception in 2010.
Lt. Colonel Al Marzouqi highlighted that the collective presence of participants reflects a shared dedication to strengthening the role of women in peacekeeping operations. She stressed the importance of ensuring women’s voices are integrated into strategies for peace and security while expressing her hopes for the workshop’s success.
Held under the theme "Creating a Global Network for Women in Police Peacekeeping," the five-day workshop addresses topics such as enhancing women’s global contributions to peacekeeping, improving institutional performance through gender inclusion, and building capacity in peace, security, and conflict resolution.
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to supporting international efforts that promote societal security and global peace. By engaging with regional and international organizations, the UAE aims to foster stronger partnerships and advance joint initiatives to ensure international stability and security.
