MOI rolls out “Your Vehicle Safety keeps You Safe” unified traffic awareness campaign
The Ministry of the Interior, represented by the Federal Traffic Council, has launched the third state-level unified traffic awareness campaign for 2023. With the slogan "Your Vehicle Safety keeps You Safe" the campaign coincides with the summer season and high temperatures, spanning a three-month period. Its primary objective is to enhance community awareness regarding the risks associated with traffic accidents resulting from neglecting regular vehicle maintenance. The campaign emphasizes the importance of conducting necessary checks and maintenance to ensure the safety of vehicles and passengers, ultimately aiming to preserve lives and prevent accidents causing severe injuries and material damage.
Brigadier General Eng. Hussain Al-Harthy, Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, stated that the campaign's launch, "Your vehicle's safety is your safety," aligns with the start of the summer vacation and the travel season characterized by increased road trips. This necessitates highlighting and warning individuals to prioritize safety measures to ensure drivers' safe and secure arrival. The Federal Traffic Council has initiated the campaign in collaboration and coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic Coordination in the Ministry, the traffic and patrol departments nationwide, and various traffic safety agencies in both the public and private sectors. Strategic partners from the Ministry, federal and local bodies, have also participated to ensure the implementation of necessary precautions and measures, particularly regarding vehicle maintenance patrols. These patrols aim to guarantee vehicle safety by identifying and rectifying defects that may lead to hazardous and fatal accidents on internal and external roads.
The campaign encompasses several key areas previously discussed and approved within the unified traffic plan. These areas primarily focus on providing tips, instructions, and awareness guidance to the public. They include emphasizing the importance of adhering to speed limits to ensure safe travel, maintaining a safe distance between vehicles while driving, and obeying traffic laws to enhance the safety of drivers and others on the road. Additionally, the campaign stresses the significance of verifying the condition of tires, lighting, and directional indicators on vehicles. It encourages conducting necessary vehicle examinations and maintenance before embarking on land travel, while also emphasizing the need to adhere to permissible load limits on the vehicle's roof (not exceeding 60 centimeters in height). This measure aims to avoid imbalance and loss of control. Moreover, the campaign warns against leaving flammable materials and tools containing chemical elements that react with high air temperatures in vehicles, as this can lead to vehicle fires and serious injuries.
This campaign aligns with the Ministry of the Interior's overall strategy and efforts to ensure the highest levels of safety, providing necessary protection and traffic prevention for vehicle drivers. To reach all segments of society, the campaign disseminates direct awareness messages in three different languages (Arabic, English, and Urdu). These messages are distributed through news channels, various media platforms (print, audio, and visual), and social networks. Additionally, the campaign organizes panel discussions and dialogue sessions where specialized officials address public inquiries about the campaign's content, traffic values, and cultural aspects. These initiatives aim to maximize the desired benefits from the campaign and achieve its societal objecti.
