Conclusion of the "Indian Ocean Tsunami Simulation" (IOWAVE25) Exercise

With the participation of national authorities, the United Arab Emirates concluded its participation in the "Indian Ocean Tsunami Simulation" (IOWAVE25) International Exercise, held in the Qidfa area of Fujairah, with the participation of several relevant national authorities and in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The exercise was attended by Major General Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanem Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, a number of officers from the Ministry of Interior and the Fujairah Police General Command, and officials from the participating entities.

The exercise featured a simulated scenario of a powerful earthquake in the Indian Ocean region resulting in a tsunami. The exercise tested the effectiveness of early warning systems and coordination mechanisms among relevant entities in rapid response and evacuation, contributing to protecting lives and reducing potential losses.

The UAE's participation from relevant authorities comes as part of its commitment to supporting national and international efforts to enhance preparedness and coordination in the face of natural risks and disasters, and to ensure the readiness of the national response system and its operational plans to handle various hypothetical emergency scenarios.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed that its participation falls within its ongoing commitment to strengthening institutional capabilities, developing national emergency plans, and supporting cooperation and integration among relevant authorities. This ensures continuous preparedness to deal with natural disasters and emergencies, in line with the directives of the wise leadership to consolidate the security and safety of society and the sustainability of national development.
