MOI Takes Part in a Workshop in Nepal on Women, Peace, and Security

The Ministry of Interior actively participated in the Workshop on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) held in Nepal from May 13 to 17, 2024. This significant international event, organized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Program in Support of International Police Peacekeeping Operations (IPPOS), convened experts worldwide to deliberate on critical issues concerning the involvement of women in peacekeeping endeavors.

Representing the United Arab Emirates were Colonel Saeed Al Dhaheri, Police Advisor of the Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations in New York, and Lt. Colonel Dr. Amal Qambar, Chairman of the Women’s Police Council at the Ministry of Interior. The Ministry’s active engagement underscores the UAE’s dedication to enhancing and fortifying international peacekeeping endeavors.

The workshop provided a pivotal platform for participants to assess existing global, regional, and national initiatives, conduct a comprehensive needs assessment, and endorse the UNITAR-IPKO Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security Initiatives in Policing Peacekeeping.

Key outcomes of the workshop included the identification of gaps in current programs and the formulation of a comprehensive action plan to tackle these challenges. This contribution significantly bolstered the strategy for policing peace operations and propelled the agenda for women, peace, and security forward.

Colonel Saeed Al Dhaheri expressed, The forthcoming workshop, sponsored and hosted by the UAE, will build upon the groundwork laid in Nepal, fostering greater international collaboration in the realm of women, peace, and security. The UAE remains steadfast in its commitment to spearheading initiatives in international law that foster global peace and security, echoing our nation’s values and vision for a safer, more harmonious world.

Reflecting on the UAE’s involvement, Lt. Colonel Dr. Amal Qambar remarked, Our participation highlights the UAE’s unwavering commitment to bolstering global peace and security endeavors. Through active engagement in these critical dialogues, we are instrumental in shaping strategies that ensure the meaningful participation of women in peacekeeping operations.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Interior is delighted to announce its intention to host the second workshop on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) later this year in Abu Dhabi.
